Plumbing FAQ

What should I do if my toilet is constantly running?

A constantly running toilet can be caused by a variety of issues, such as a faulty flapper, a broken fill valve, or an improperly adjusted float. It’s best to check these components first, and if the problem persists, contact a professional plumber to diagnose and fix the issue.

To prevent your pipes from freezing, you can insulate exposed pipes, keep your home heated to a minimum of 55°F (13°C), allow faucets to drip during extremely cold weather, and seal any cracks or openings near pipes to keep cold air out.

A higher water bill can indicate a leak somewhere in your plumbing system. Common culprits include leaking toilets, dripping faucets, or hidden pipe leaks. Check these areas for any signs of leaks and consider having a professional plumber conduct a thorough inspection if the cause isn’t obvious.

Signs that your water heater may need to be replaced include inconsistent hot water, strange noises coming from the heater, rust-colored water, or water pooling around the unit. If your water heater is over 10-15 years old, it may be time to consider a replacement.
